The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) has entered into an exceptional partnership with Meludia. From December 6, 2017, access to the Meludia web platform and its 625 interactive music learning exercises will be completely free for all residents and visitors in Canada. The mission of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and its Music Director, Rune Bergmann, is to encourage and promote music education in Canada. By fostering a closer personal connection with music, the CPO aims to enrich the concert experience for all Canadians.
"It was clear to me that Meludia was the ideal tool to bring understanding and music education to our audience in Calgary, but also to all residents of Canada."
"Music is a universal language that transcends borders. I am delighted that Canadians from all walks of life and cultural backgrounds will have access to this beautiful gift. It will no doubt enrich the closing celebrations of Canada 150."
When Rune Bergmann, the Music Director of the CPO, first discovered Meludia, he was inspired by its educational qualities and innovative approach to developing musical perception, listening skills, and the acquisition of music fundamentals. He brought the project to the attention of Paul Dornian, CEO of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, who agreed to launch a national deployment of Meludia, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Canada, a wonderful end-of-year musical gift to the nation from one of its finest orchestras.
"When Rune introduced me to the Meludia platform, I was impressed by its extremely intuitive, interactive, and fun format. Meludia will profoundly transform music education. Thanks to this partnership and the participation of several CPO donors, I am very happy that we are making Meludia accessible to all residents and visitors of Canada who want to improve their understanding of music or start from scratch."
From December 6, 2017, anyone in Canada can go to http://www.meludia.com, create an account, and access the web application for free until December 5, 2018. Canadians will be able to benefit from the platform’s 625 interactive exercises. By using the platform just 15 minutes a day, four times a week, beginners should be able to complete the beginner level in 3 months, the intermediate level in 6 months, and the advanced level in 12 months.
"We are extremely grateful to Maestro Rune Bergmann and Paul Dornian of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra for having the vision and determination that made this project a reality. An initiative like this, on such a large scale and led by one of Canada's major orchestras, will certainly raise global awareness of the importance of music education in the development of every human being."
At the launch of the operation, and also in 2018, a team from Meludia in Paris will spend several weeks visiting all regions of Canada, from the Northwest Territories to the Maritime Provinces, to present the platform in public and private schools, music schools, universities, retirement homes, hospitals, prisons, and community centers. This “road show” aimed to raise awareness among various audiences about the importance of music education and the beneficial effects that learning music has on society, benefits that have been proven in numerous studies. It will also involve introducing the Meludia platform and its colorful and captivating exercises to as many people as possible, regardless of their status and musical level.
"We are looking forward to starting the series of 'road shows' in Canada in 2018, to bring music awareness and learning to as many Canadian communities as possible, in partnership with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. At Meludia, we believe that music education is a fundamental human right, as important to human development as learning to speak, read, and write. We believe that a musically educated society gradually becomes happier and more harmonious."
